Who says yes above the limit?

The one question to answer before an agent goes live.

An agent can act.
Someone has to decide
how far.

1

The question in one sentence

An agent may act up to a limit. Above it, a named person decides. Many teams have never written down who that person is, so the answer ends up wherever the builder put it.

2

Where the answer hides today

Usually in one of four places.

P
A promptWords the agent can be talked out of.
F
A FlowLogic nobody signed off.
H
A habitWhat Maria usually does on Fridays.
?
NowhereThe agent fills the gap.
3

A limit has four parts

Miss one and the limit leaks.

1
The limitUp to EUR 200 the agent may act.
2
Exactly on the lineIs EUR 200 inside or above?
3
The time edgeEligible for 30 days. Day 31?
4
Self-approvalCan the requester approve their own?
4

A refund, written down

Four lines a person can sign.

// refund · rule version 3 · owner: Service Lead if amount <= 200 → agent refunds if amount > 200 → Team Lead decides if days > 30 → outside, explain why requester ≠ approver, always
Nothing here is a prompt.
5

What silence means

The question everyone skips.

The Team Lead doesn't answer for 24 hours. What happens? Hold, escalate to the next name, or decline with a reason. The one answer that is never written down on purpose: the agent decides.

6

What a limit is not

×
Not an instruction in a promptA prompt can be argued with.
×
Not a policy PDFThe system never reads it.
×
Not a dashboardIt shows the leak after it happened.
7

Try it on yours

Pick one process an agent will touch. Say the limit out loud, then the name above it. If you had to think, you just found the first open decision.
